Cold back under control, usually the same day.
A fridge losing temperature gives you hours, not days. We measure before opening anything, name the price, and only then start work.
What we handle
Symptoms
Cooling problems announce themselves in a handful of ways, and each points somewhere different inside the cabinet.
What you notice
What it usually means
Running but never properly cold
Air has stopped moving. The evaporator fan, a drain frozen into a plug, or a door gasket that lost its grip years ago.
Frost sheeting the freezer wall
The defrost cycle is not completing. Heater, bimetal thermostat, or the board timing them has dropped out.
Water collecting under the crisper
Meltwater should reach the pan and evaporate. A blocked drain sends it inside the cabinet instead.
Compressor that never rests
Coils clogged with lint, a leak in the sealed system, or a relay that can no longer start the compressor. Left running, the compressor becomes the next bill.
Ice maker producing nothing
Either the water solenoid, the maker's own motor, or a supply tube blocked with ice. Each needs its own check, and replacing the wrong one costs real money for nothing.
Fridge warm while the freezer holds
Airflow between compartments has been interrupted, usually a damper control or the circulation fan.
The visit
Model number and symptom on the phone. Often that alone tells us which part to load.
A thermometer goes into both compartments while airflow and the defrost circuit get checked.
One number covering the whole job. Nothing is opened until you agree to it.
We stay long enough to watch temperatures drop where they should, then note the warranty date.
Codes
Most fridges built in the last fifteen years store faults and put a code on the display. Here are the ones we decode most often.
A code narrows the search without finishing it. An identical display can mean an inexpensive probe or a full controller, so nothing gets quoted until the meter says which.
Brands
Danby is built an hour away in Guelph and shows up constantly in student rentals and basement apartments here. Inglis fills the older streets. At the other end, Laurelwood and Vista Hills kitchens run Miele and Sub-Zero, and those are equally within scope.
From customers
Fridge side crept up to eight degrees while the freezer stayed fine. Turned out to be the circulation fan. He talked through each test as he went, which made the bill easy to understand.
Chest freezer in the basement quit with a summer's worth of food in it. Someone came the same afternoon, replaced the relay, and everything was saved.
Where we work
Fridge calls sit at the top of the schedule. Working one city means we are rarely more than fifteen minutes from any address on the list.
