Before you ring
None of it is required. Having it nearby simply means the right component is more likely to be in the van when we arrive.
Every machine carries a plate with it printed on, tucked inside the door surround, low down behind the toe panel, or on the back. Snapping it with your phone is all we need.
Sounds, smells, anything on the display, and roughly when it started. Small observations rule out large numbers of possibilities before anyone sets off.
Ranges and dryers exist in both forms and they fail along completely different lines. Knowing which you have decides what gets loaded before the visit.
A buzzer code, underground parking, a dog that needs settling, or laundry at the bottom of narrow basement stairs. Mention it and the visit gets planned around it.
