Heat restored, and the vent checked at no extra cost.
When one load demands two programmes, something has actually broken, and every additional run shows up on the electricity bill. Both get measured in the same visit, since a problem with either can disguise a problem with the other.
What we handle
Symptoms
There are three broad categories of dryer trouble, and knowing which one you have sets the length of the appointment.
What you notice
What it usually means
Drum turning, nothing warming
Electric machines typically drop the heating coil or blow the safety fuse. Gas models lose the igniter or flame sensor. Both are routine.
Still damp after a full cycle
Restricted airflow nearly every time. In the older basements west of Uptown, the duct run is long enough to collect lint quickly.
Drum refusing to turn
Usually the drive belt, although worn drum supports or a jammed tensioner arrive at the same result after a period of noise.
Rumbling or screeching
Support rollers and the idler wheel wear down. Caught in time the components cost little. Left running, they destroy the belt and put strain on the motor.
Shutting off after minutes
The thermal fuse protecting an overheating machine. The cause sits further back, in the airflow or a stuck thermostat.
Nothing at all when started
Something in the safety chain has broken continuity, whether at the door, the start button or the fuse. Each gets tested with a meter rather than replaced on spec.
The visit
Fuel type, model, and whether the drum still turns. Electric and gas diverge from the first minute.
Both, together. A weakening element behind a choked duct looks exactly like a dead element on its own.
What the fix will run, plus a straight account of the duct condition regardless of whether it needs work.
Component fitted, exhaust cleaned where required, and the machine brought up to temperature before we go.
Codes
Dryer codes mostly concern heat, airflow and moisture sensing.
Airflow codes deserve attention rather than a reset. Restricted exhaust raises the internal temperature and extends every cycle. That combination starts most laundry fires, and it is also why a brand new heating coil can burn out within twelve months.
Brands
Everything from plain vented machines to heat-pump and Speed Queen drums. Stacked and condenser machines dominate the King Street buildings, and their parts differ enough that we confirm the model number before loading up.
From customers
Stacked dryer in the condo stopped heating. He took the model number over the phone, arrived with the correct component, and finished inside sixty minutes.
Two runs to dry towels and we assumed it was finished. Duct was packed solid and the element half gone. Both sorted in one visit.
Where we work
Dryer calls across the whole city, including the older basements where the exhaust wanders halfway across the house before reaching daylight.
